France Apply VAT to Yacht Charter Services from 15 July 2013

As a VAT on yachts & boats aficianado I was interested to learn that the French tax authority has now given notice that pleasure yachting charter arrangements will be subject to VAT (Value Added Tax) from 15 July 2013. This announcement comes after the European Commission’s November 2012 request to French authorities requiring France to revoke a VAT exemption on the charter of yachts which are used for pleasure boating purposes.

VAT and yacht / boat fans will be interested to know that the French tax authority has issued ‘BOI-VAT-FIELD-30-30-30-10-20130625’ which provides preliminary guidance on the forthcoming changes.

If you are in Britain and your boat is in France you need to know about this!
