Tax and boat fans will find this story heart-warming! Greek shipowners have signed a voluntary agreement to make extra revenue payments through the cargo Tonnage Tax over 3 years. This may generate some Eur75m to Eur140m from 90% of ships flying the Greek flag and from 65% of Greek ships flying foreign flags. I understand that the head of Hellenic Shipowners, Theodoros Veniamis, has said that shipowners wished to repay their Government’s love and support for the industry.
I wonder what Greek tax barristers make of this?
