Tax fans can smile at David Heaton speaking at a London conference: ‘101 ideas for personal tax planning’, explaining how to keep money ‘out of the Chancellor’s grubby mitts’ and then 2 months later getting himself on a panel advising HMRC on how to tackle tax avoidance. He was banged to rights by secret BBC filming and has resigned. It seems that Chancellor Osborne was ‘very annoyed’ when he heard Mr Heaton’s comments.
Mr Heaton will probably get the last laugh, though. He can now go back to his tax advice conferences with tax-street-cred and insider-HMRC-knowledge.
