Northern Irish Call for Tourism VAT Cut

The Northern Irish hotel and tourist industry has called for a VAT cut to 5%. With the Republic of Ireland charging just 9% there is a big problem of the tax difference making Northern Ireland uncompetitive. The UK Treasury insists on keeping the higher rate. But with other parts of the UK, like Scotland, getting ever more tax independence the case for fairer local tax treatment in Northern Ireland is growing.
