Indian Grand Prix not Delayed by Tax Dispute

The Indian Supreme Court has postponed a tax challenge to the Indian Formula 1 grand prix motor race until after the race this weekend. A public litigation interest challenge, trying to get the race cancelled, claimed the motor race was not a sport but an entertainment event liable to entertainment tax. The race promoters rejected the challenge but have deposited the money anyway. Tax fans will notice it was not the Indian tax authorities querying things but a third party, it is understood. So fans in India and worldwide get to enjoy their motor sport (oops, spot the petrol head!) and/or entertainment.
