Charities and UK Tax Break

The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) has reported the UK should not try to copy US-style tax incentives for charities. As a tax barrister I agree. The US tax system for charities reflects the culture of philanthropy there, the UK has a more complex and patch-work approach. Commenting on CAF’s report the minister for civil society welcomed simplification, but warned there would be no fundamental changes. The shadow minister reminded the charity sector to celebrate the contribution of small donors not just large ones.
