Lord Sugar, Alan Sugar of Amstrad and other business ventures, in an Irish press article gives a very sensible approach to staying away from the dubious tax avoidance schemes that are peddled about. These have caught out celebrities and many others in high-profile failures at the Tax Tribunal when rightly challenged by HMRC. His approach is to keep his business straightforward; and well done him. Tax law itself is unfortunately often very complex, but that is down to Parliament and HMRC. For any business tax should follow the business it is in, not drive it. That means there is no need to add complexity and risk by doing things only for tax reasons.
