China is pulling ahead in the ongoing China vs. US international tax disputes row. With each side throwing claim and counter-claim about it is impossible to untangle who started it or who is really to blame. The main weapon used by both sides is tax through import or export duties. The big problem for the US is that past US trade wars were waged against economically weaker opponents. But China is an economic superpower that can stand up for itself. China won the latest World Trade Organisation (WTO) dispute with the US in December 2014 and has just announced an easing on its export control over rare earth metals, vital to the US economy.
