Solicitor Fine by Regulator for Not Disclosing Use of SDLT Tax Avoidance Scheme

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has rebuked a solicitor in Gwent for acting for clients using a Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) tax avoidance scheme. It was found, by agreement with the solicitor, that they had not disclosed to lender clients the use of tax schemes by purchaser clients, which scheme HMRC considered did not work. Costs of £5,000 were also ordered to be paid.
