European Investigation of Google

Media reports are speculating that the ongoing European Commission investigation into Google may soon lead to the start of legal action. The enquiry is into a possible abuse of a dominant market position by Google and what to do about it. The problem Google has it that the competition commissioner, Margrethe Vestager, is no push-over. If things end up with a fine it could be based on Google’s revenue, not their much smaller taxable profits (itself the subject of controversy for some, with the new UK diverted profits tax being sometimes called the Google tax).
