EU Consultation on VAT MOSS Harming UK Small Businesses

The EU has a tax consultation on until 18th December on its VAT Moss, mini one stop shop, system. That was brought in on 1st January 2015 with the new place of supply rules. A particular problem is the barrier to UK small businesses in selling digital products or services into the EU. This is because the EU system of VAT MOSS does not allow any VAT registration threshold. This has damaged UK small businesses by forcing them to register for VAT if they sell electronically into the EU. Originally the Commission had included a VAT threshold for smaller businesses, but this got thrown out. The Commission says it wants that option again to help support small and start-up companies.
