The tax code has doubled in size to about 10* million words since the Conservatives came to power in 2010, according to the Centre For Policy Studies. Give or take the odd ½ words I would not argue with 10 million! Quite what benefit the country has to show for it, however, is another matter. The Chancellor, Treasury and HMRC need to make the tax code better for everyone, not just longer for their own benefit.
* To put that into context: the King James Bible is about 783,000 words long, magna Carta about 3,500 and Lincoln’s Gettysburg address a mere 271 words long.
